Dermal fillers in Bristol: cheeks, chin, jawline and lower face

Dermal filler is a firmer hyaluronic acid gel, placed to restore volume, add structure or temporarily soften the look of deeper lines. It always starts with a consultation on its own, where we plan everything in writing.

What dermal filler is, and what it isn’t

Dermal filler is a hyaluronic acid gel, like lip filler but usually firmer, placed deeper in the skin or close to the bone. It can restore volume that has reduced over time, add a little structure to areas such as the cheeks, chin and jaw, and temporarily soften the look of deeper lines. [[ASK Q33: the products you use for each area]]

It isn’t a facelift and it doesn’t stop the face ageing. The aim is balance: you, looking rested and like yourself. Like all hyaluronic acid filler, it’s temporary.

Areas I treat

[[ASK: Q33]]

Cheeks

Filler placed over the cheekbones can restore volume that has reduced with age or weight loss, or add a little definition. It’s placed deep, close to the bone, and the change is usually subtle: balancing the face rather than reshaping it. We’ll agree the amount at your consultation, and you can build up gradually.

[[ASK: Q33]]

Chin

Chin filler can add a little projection or length to the chin, which can bring your profile into balance with your nose and lips. It’s a firmer filler placed deep, and many people need more than one syringe [[ASK: your typical amount]], sometimes over more than one appointment.

[[ASK: Q33]]

Jawline

Filler along the jawline can add definition from the angle of the jaw towards the chin. The jaw usually needs more filler than other areas, so treatment is often planned in stages. I’ll explain how much I’d suggest, and why, before you decide.

[[ASK: Q33]]

Lines between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds)

These lines run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Filler can temporarily soften how deep they look, though it won’t remove them. Sometimes the better answer is restoring a little volume in the cheeks above, and I’ll tell you which approach I’d recommend.

[[ASK: Q33]]

Lines from the corners of the mouth (marionette lines)

Marionette lines run down from the corners of the mouth towards the chin. Filler can temporarily soften their appearance and support the corners of the mouth. As with every area, the aim is a softer look, not a different face.

[[ASK: Q33]]

Under-eye and nose filler

I don’t offer under-eye (tear trough) or nose filler at the moment. Both areas sit close to important blood vessels, carry a higher risk of complications and need specialist experience. If you’re interested in either, I’d suggest seeing a practitioner who focuses on them.

Who dermal filler suits, and who it doesn’t

Dermal filler may suit you if you’re 18 or over, in good general health, and you’d like a subtle change to volume, structure or deeper lines, with realistic expectations of what filler can do.

It isn’t right for you at the moment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding; have an infection, cold sore, spots or inflammation in or near the area; have a history of severe allergies or anaphylaxis, or are allergic to local anaesthetics or anything in the filler; have a bleeding disorder or take medicines that thin the blood (tell me at your consultation); have an autoimmune condition or a weakened immune system (we’ll talk it through first); have had dental treatment in the last two weeks or have some booked in the next two; or feel unwell on the day.

How a consultation works

You book a consultation on its own first. It takes about 20 minutes (£[[ASK]]).

We talk about what you’d like to change, look at your face together in good light, and go through your health history and any previous treatments. I’ll explain what I’d recommend, and what I wouldn’t. If we agree on a plan, you’ll have it in writing: the area, the product, the amount in ml and the total price.

There’s no obligation to go ahead and no pressure to decide on the day. If you’d like to, we book your treatment appointment together [[ASK Q49: same day if time allows, or always a later date?]].

Your treatment appointment, step by step

  1. Arrival and ID. A quick check of your photo ID, and a recap of your plan.

  2. Consent. We go through the plan, the risks and the price again, and you sign a consent form.

  3. Preparation. The area is cleaned, and numbing is used where appropriate.

  4. Treatment. [[ASK: Q33]] The filler is placed with small injections or a fine, blunt-tipped cannula, depending on the area, checking the result with you as we go.

  5. Aftercare. You leave with written aftercare, a way to reach me, [[ASK Q-B9: and a review appointment about two weeks later]].

How long it takes, downtime and how long it lasts

How long it takes. Treatment appointments take about [[ASK Q58: length per area]].

Downtime. Expect some swelling, tenderness and possibly bruising for a few days; most of it settles within one to two weeks. The chin and jaw can feel firm at first. Most people carry on with their day, but please avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise, saunas and sunbeds for 24 hours, and sleep on your back for the first night if you can.

How long it lasts. Dermal filler is temporary. How long it lasts depends on the product, the area and your own body. [[ASK Q33: the duration stated in the instructions for use of each product you use]] I’ll give you an honest expectation at your consultation.

Risks and side effects

The common effects are short-lived: swelling, tenderness, bruising, redness, and some firmness or small lumps while the filler settles.

Less commonly, filler can lead to infection, lumps that don’t settle, swelling that returns weeks later, or filler moving from where it was placed.

Rarely, filler can block a blood vessel. The risk is higher in some parts of the face, including around the nose and the lines beside it, which is one reason every plan starts with a careful consultation. It’s an emergency that needs treating straight away; I watch for the signs during and after treatment, and you’ll leave knowing what to look out for.

Prices

Your consultation (£[[ASK]]) comes first. Treatment prices depend on the area and the amount of filler, and are confirmed in writing at your consultation before anything is done. [[ASK: Q43]] Dermal filler treatment starts from £[[ASK]].

  • Move or cancel at least 48 hours ahead and it’s refunded or moved.

FAQs

How long does dermal filler last?

It’s temporary, and it depends on the product, the area and your body. [[ASK Q33]] I’ll give you an honest expectation for you at your consultation.

Will it look natural?

That’s what I aim for: small amounts, placed carefully, and a plan you’ve agreed to in writing. Results vary from person to person, and I’ll tell you if I think a change you’d like wouldn’t suit you.

Can I have more than one area treated?

Sometimes, yes. We’ll talk about what makes sense together and what’s better done in stages, and the total price is agreed before anything is done.

Does it hurt?

Your comfort matters. Numbing is used where appropriate, and I’ll talk you through what to expect. You may feel pressure more than pain, and you can ask me to pause at any time.

Can I exercise afterwards?

Please avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours. A gentle walk is fine.

What if I don’t like the result?

Swelling and firmness can change how it looks at first, so judge your result at about two weeks. If you’re still unhappy then, message me and we’ll talk it through.
